Biggest Attack on the Unborn We’ve Ever Seen

In the eighteen years that Peter Wolfgang has been president of FIC Action, we can count on one hand the number of defeats we have suffered and still have a couple of fingers left over. With just six weeks remaining in the 2025 legislative session, that record may be about to change drastically.

Unless our members rise up now to stop the most outrageous attack on unborn human life in Connecticut that we have ever seen!

HB 7213, the Kill Newborns and Lie About It Bill, is expected to be voted on in our state House of Representatives next week. We need your help to stop it.

“Hide the ball and gaslight the public” is now standard operating procedure for the pro-abortion extremists at our state Capitol. So here is what you need to know.

Even in deeply pro-abortion Connecticut, there are some very basic protections that have been in our laws for fifty years, ever since around the time of Roe v. Wade. One of these regulations requires the doctor to save the life of a newborn child who accidentally survives a botched abortion. Another regulation protects medical workers from being forced to participate in abortions if it violates their conscience.

Last summer, FIC Action and our allies discovered that Planned Parenthood and the legislative pro-abortion caucus were quietly attempting to remove those protections with very little public notice. We blew the whistle on their efforts and stopped them. Even Gov. Ned Lamont and Hartford Courantcolumnist Kevin Rennie expressed their disapproval of Planned Parenthood’s action, once we brought attention to it.

We thought the battle was won. But then came HB 7213 in this year’s legislative session. The bill seemed to say that minors don’t have to notify their parents before having an abortion, which is weird because minors in Connecticut already don’t have to do that. Nevertheless, a public hearing was held on this seemingly superfluous bill.

Only some weeks later did the bill’s proponents reveal the true purpose of HB 7213. The morning of the Committee vote, new language was added to HB 7213. The new language? Why, the very same abortion regulation repeals we had stopped last summer.

That is, HB 7213 is now a bill removing the requirement that doctors save the lives of newborns who survive abortions, remove conscience protections for pro-life medical workers, and–this was new–remove all abortion reporting requirements in state law. So that we will no longer know how many minor girls get abortions in Connecticut, how minority women are disproportionately targeted by Connecticut’s abortion industry, and so forth.

We haven’t the space to list all the misinformation spouted by the bill’s supporters that day to claim that it was not what it looked like. But you should know that the ranking Republican on the committee, Rep. Lezyle Zupkus (who led her entire party in opposing the bill) reminded the Democrat co-chair, Rep. Crisin McCarthy Vahey, that Zupkus had asked her weeks earlier if HB 7213 was really a bill to repeal the abortion regulations and Vahey said no. Vahey not only misled Zupkus but made certain HB 7213’s true purpose was not revealed until after the public hearing, so that the public could have no input.

All of which is our long-winded way of saying we, the public–and especially FIC Action’s members–need to have our say now, on the most extreme pro-abortion bill we have ever seen, which is being brought to the floor of the House next week by the most deceptive tactics we have ever seen.

Here’s how.

1. Email your state representative and state senator and ask them to vote NO on HB 7213 by using this link. We have created a message for you but feel free to add a beginning or end in your own words. Let your legislators know that, even if they are “pro-choice,” HB 7213 is way too extreme.

2. Attend the Connecticut Right to Life’s workshop this Saturday. FIC and our allies will be there to tell you more on how to fight HB 7213. The information for the workshop is in this image:

3. Be prepared to come to the state Capitol in Hartford next week. We don’t know the details yet of when HB 7213 will appear on the House calendar. But we will need as a big a crowd of pro-lifers as possible to help convince the legislators that HB 7213 is a bad bill–the baddest–and should not become law.

4. Donate to FIC Action. We are bulking up for this battle–and some other big ones that are coming. But we need your support to do it.
