March for Life in Washington and Hartford
January 5th, 2007 by Peter
The last election’s anti-Republican wave has left us with a net loss of 13 pro-life seats in Congress and the return of a pro-abortion majority. It is against this backdrop that I will be attending my first March for Life in Washington and I hope others will too. Below is information from the Archdiocese of Hartford on pro-life events in Washington and Hartford.
Dear Advocate for Life,
If you are interested in participating in the March for Life 2007, in Washington, D.C., please call our office. The March for Life is a powerful way to demonstrate your support for life, especially unborn children.
Buses will be leaving Connecticut on Sunday, January 21, 2007, for Washington, D.C., to join with more than 250,000 advocates for unborn children who will gather at the Washington Monument at noon on January 22, and march in prayerful procession to the U.S. Supreme Court building. The March for Life calls to mind the Roe v. Wade decision of 1973, which has legalized the taking of over 47,000 million babies in the United States. It has caused untold grief to the mothers, fathers and families of those touched by abortion.
A two-day pilgrimage will start on Sunday morning, January 21, 2007, from the Franciscan Life Center in Meriden at 7:30 a.m. The bus will arrive at The Washington Plaza Hotel in the late afternoon. At 6:00 p.m. the bus will take pilgrims to the Vigil Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. This Mass, which calls hundreds of clergy and religious and thousands of lay faithful, displays the profound value the Catholic Church places on each person’s dignity and right to life.
The following morning, Monday, January 22, Archbishop Henry J.
Mansell will celebrate Mass at the Washington Plaza Hotel at 8:00 a.m.
Following Mass, there will be breakfast with keynote speaker Dr.
Marie Hilliard, JCL, PhD, RN, Director of Bioethics and Public Policy, National Catholic Bioethics Center. Her topic will be”‘With Liberty and Justice for All?’ Today’s Threats to Religious Liberty.” Dr. Marie T.
Hilliard is well known to the people of Connecticut, having served as the Executive Director of the Connecticut Catholic Conference for 10 years. She will share from a national perspective the escalating threats to religious liberty in our country. Her perspective will enhance understanding of the efforts certain anti-life movements are making to restrict religious liberty. This all directly impact the efforts of the Pro-Life Movement.
Another bus will leave from St. Mark the Evangelist Church in West Hartford at 11:00 p.m on Sunday, January 21, and pick up other pilgrims at St. Mary Church in Milford at midnight. This bus will l arrive at the Washington Plaza Hotel for the 8:00 a.m. Mass with Archbishop Mansell.
The March for Life is a highly visible opportunity for public expression of commitment to protecting human life and for showing opposition to Roe v. Wade. If you want to join the March, please call the Pro-life Ministry, Archdiocese of Hartford and make reservations for the bus, breakfast and hotel. Phone number: 203-639-0833 or 203-238-1441.
