“What I didn’t know at the time was that the school was affirming a new identity behind my back. She was telling staff and students negative things about me—things that were not true—and the school supported her without ever contacting me. Not one teacher or administrator reached out to inform me of what was happening.” Elvira Syed on X

Ilene Syed, a high school student, was socially-transitioned at Simsbury High School without her mother’s knowledge or consent. Teachers and administrators implemented a psycho-social treatment plan without first verifying with a parent, whether or not their daughter was receiving alternative treatment or diagnoses with a medically-trained professional. They undertook this powerful mental health treatment without notifying, consulting with or getting permission from Ilene’s only remaining parent, Elvira Syed. They continued this treatment and hid it from Elvira. Outrageously, this was done in accordance with recommendations made by the State of Connecticut Department Education.

“. . . the school cut me off from my own child while affirming a false narrative.” – Elvira Syed on X

This deception created a wedge between a mother and daughter and led to a complete deterioration of their formerly close relationship. Does this sound familiar? Has this happened in your family? Despite initial affirmation of the alternative identity by her mom, young Irene’s mental health continued to deteriorate. This deterioration ultimately led to a devastating loss you can read more about at Elvira’s account on X. Elvira attributes this devastating loss, in part, to the wedge created by the culture, gender ideology and actions at her daughter’s high school.

“In the end, the school’s silence and affirmation of a false identity contributed to the growing divide between me and my daughter.” Elvira Syed on X

That was her lived experience and it deserves to be told and heard by state officials at the highest ranks. Hiding and secretly socially transitioning children in Connecticut schools is an outrageous betrayal of the trust between parents and school systems. There have been calls for Attorney General Tong to investigate. The Family Institute of Connecticut Action calls on Governor Lamont to intervene and reign in his Education Department to recall their guidance to schools and stop their policy of practicing mental health interventions without a license and deceiving parents to facilitate secret social transitions in school.
