In one place, everything you need to know and links to take action.

There are only weeks left to this year’s legislative session and now is the time to make sure we’ve done everything we can to oppose a giant push for assisted suicide and abortion.

  1. SEND E-MAILS USING FIC’S ACTION CENTER: There are 4 bills to write your legislator about: JR30 – Abortion Constitutional Amendment, HB5261 – Abortion Expansion to non-doctors, HB5414 – Safe Harbor for out-of-state abortionists, and SB-88 annual Assisted Suicide bill. Please utilize our Action Center and contact your legislators on EACH one of these bills today (and please share with 5 like-minded friends).
  2. SEND A HAND-WRITTEN LETTER TO YOUR LEGISLATOR: In addition to visiting your legislator or participating in a Meet & Greet, one of the best ways to reach your legislator is with a hand-written note. Your letter doesn’t have to be fancy or a dissertation on the topic. An effective note includes: a brief introduction or reminder of when you’ve met, a statement of your opposition to one or all of the bills, ask that they also oppose the bill(s), then a closing remark. THAT’S IT! The important part is that you took the time to write. You can find your legislator’s address here: https://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/menu/CGAFindleg.asp. The ACLU provides some additional tips for writing your legislator. Find them here.
  3. SUBMIT A LETTER TO THE EDITOR: If you don’t read the local paper, you might not notice the battle raging on our issues. Your contribution is needed and you don’t even have to subscribe. Please take 20 minutes to submit a letter by e-mail to your local paper opposing one of the 4 bills mentioned above. If you follow the link to our action center, you’ll get great ideas on what to include in your letter. The ACLU provides additional tips for writing your local paper: check them out here. Please include “Letter to the Editor” in the title of your e-mail and submit your name, town, phone number and 250 word or less statement to The HARTFORD COURANT; HEARST MEDIA GROUP: New Haven RegisterConnecticut PostGreenwich TimeStamford Advocate and The Norwalk Hour,  The Darien TimesFairfield CitizenNew Canaan AdvertiserThe Greater New Milford Spectrum and Westport News; Waterbury Republican; The New London Day or any other local newspaper.
