"Keeping Christ in Christmas" in Fairfield.

You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here. This is the message from 4 members of the Town of Fairfield, Parks and Recreation Commission to the Knights of Columbus earlier this year in response to their petition, for safety and other reasons, to move the same creche display they’ve maintained for 40 years, less than a 1/2 mile down the street to Sherman Green.

The town has required the Knights to maintain an in-person presence at their creche display (a requirement not made of other displays). They have done so since Nello Ceccarelli, a local town official, maintained the overnight vigil each year for 23 years. Sherman Green, where the Knights wish to move the creche, hosts many summer concerts; certainly a location large enough for public concerts is large enough for a prayerful gathering. The reasons for 4 members of the Board to vote down the request this year seem as weak as a newborn baby.

That stated, it is our sincere hope that despite no room at the Sherman Green for the Holy Family and the Knights of Columbus for now, that this year even more families will be inspired to stand vigil with the baby Christ Child at Town Hall Green in Fairfield anytime from 6:00 pm Thursday, December 23, 2021 to 8:00 AM Christmas Morning December 25th. (I heard they are in most need on Christmas Eve – just like the Holy Family.)

Everyone is welcome! Won’t you join the Fairfield Knights of Columbus Council 2616 and honor the birth of the baby who saved the world and also stand witness for religious freedom? Because when it comes to religious freedom, it’s going to be use it or lose it.
