The Connecticut General Assembly is wrapping up the first half of its legislative session . . Committee work. The legislative activity will now transition to chamber activity, with voting by the House and Senate on raised bills. Here is what FIC has been watching carefully . . .
Assisted Suicide is likely dead for 2026. Despite an active 2026 campaign by activists and promotion by media outlets, a bill to legalize assisting someone’s suicide is unlikely to materialize or make it to the floor of either chamber this year. FIC has been meeting with allies for over a year in preparation and will continue to monitor closely, including a possible additional lobby day by proponents.
AN ACT PROMOTING THE SAFETY OF MINORS ON SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS, HB 5037. Family Institute of Connecticut Action testified early in favor of this bill and filed written testimony. While this is a bill sponsored by the Governor and supported by the Attorney General, it has received some opposition by transgender advocacy groups because despite the known harms to children of addiction to social medial algorithms, apparently these algorithms are a primary mode for proselytizing children into transgender ideology without parental consent. We urge our members to read the important testimony by a trauma nurse and tech specialist, and submit testimony SUPPORTING HB5037 as it makes it way through the legislative process. A brief “I am a parent and I support this proposed legislation” is all you need typed into the screen for the February 18 hearing.

Support HB 5309, AN ACT CONCERNING THE PROVISION OF NOTICE TO A PARENT OR GUARDIAN OF A MINOR CHILD WHO SEEKS TO RECEIVE PREGNANCY-RELATED HEALTH CARE SERVICES for all the reasons outlined in this blog post. This is our marquee effort this session and need you to contact your legislators to help get this bill out of Committee. Peter Wolfgang from the Family Institute of Connecticut and many of our members testified in favor of this bill at the March 2 hearing in the Judiciary Committee. There is still time to submit your written testimony. A simple “I support parental notification of abortion” is all you need to type in the form to support this bill.

Oppose EXPANSION OF CONNECTICUT’S “SHIELD LAWS”, SB 227 and SB 295. Combined, these bills will further protect CT’s abortionists and genital mutilating doctors against out-of-state plaintiffs attempting to sue providers for violating their own state laws that provide extra protections against harmful practices. Leslie Wolfgang testified on behalf of FIC’s members at the public hearing and submitted testimony in opposition.
We were proud to be joined by 2 brave Connecticut parents whose families have been tormented by so-called gender affirming care, even to the point of having their child removed by DCF with no finding of abuse and much worse.
We were also joined by other allies including attorneys, medical professionals and members from the self-identified gay, lesbian and bisexual community who may not share our position on other issues, but oppose puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and mutilating surgeries on gender-non-conforming minors. Some of whom have been harmed by these procedures. Claire Abernathy, a woman whose breasts were removed at age 14 as part of “gender affirming care” and who has struggled in her lawsuits against providers, submitted testimony in opposition to these bills.
Oppose HB 5468 AN ACT CONCERNING THE PROVISION OF EQUIVALENT INSTRUCTION – the Homeschool Regulation bill. For all the reasons outlined in our 2 testimonies against this bill and our 3 blog posts, we encourage you to strongly oppose this bill and contact your legislators to do the same. We urge all families to visit the legislature and talk to their representatives. Ask them where they stand on the bill and respectfully ask them to oppose the bill. Find FIC staff for your free stickers and t-shirts!

Oppose Section 5, SB 6 AN ACT CONCERNING SUPPORTS FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES as unfair to homeschool families and violating the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
Oppose SB 450, AN ACT CONCERNING THE STANDARD OF CARE FOR IMMUNIZATION as a weakening of Connecticut’s strong religious liberty protections found in Connecticut’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Peter Wolfgang of Family Institute of Connecticut testified strongly in opposition to this bill and submitted written testimony. Please review our blog post for more information and contact your legislators and share with your pastors.
Oppose HB5516, a priority of the Connecticut “Reproductive Rights” Caucus. AN ACT CONCERNING REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS would interfere the ability of our Catholic Hospitals to protect against counseling under their roof in favor of “gender affirming care” and abortions. Keep the Christian and Catholic directives of our hospitals safe from interference by activists by filing your opposition to these bills. We were there to testify against the bill and you can view Leslie Wolfgang’s testimony against HB5516 here and submit your testimony for the March 13 hearing as well. Testimony is accepted until the end of session. A simple “I love and support Catholic hospitals” is great!

Oppose HB5554, AN ACT CONCERNING THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE LEGISLATIVE REGULATION REVIEW COMMITTEE AND AGENCY REPORTS CONCERNING A REVIEW OF REGULATIONS. Among other things, this bill is a back door effort to eliminate Connecticut’s important restrictions on abortion, particularly conscience protections for providers, restrictions on 3rd trimester abortions and protections for infants born alive. For 3 years our regulations have been under attack and FIC members and our allies have been successful defending them. Leslie Wolfgang testified on behalf of the Family Institute of Connecticut Action and you can read her testimony here.
