Rhode Island Assisted Suicide Bill “Held for Study”
Just over two weeks ago, Rhode Island held a hearing on an assisted suicide bill. The status of the bill now reads, “Committee recommended measure be held for further study.” We will continue to monitor the situation, but it would appear that our allies were successful in giving the committee “second thoughts.” Every state legislature that has debated assisted suicide so far this year has rejected it.
FIC Action’s Nicole Stacy slammed the “Lila Manfield Sapinsley Compassionate Care Act” in personal testimony submitted in writing:
Testifying in person were Stephen Mendelsohn and Cathy Ludlum of Second Thoughts Connecticut; John Kelly of Not Dead Yet/Second Thoughts Massachusetts; attorney Margaret Dore; and Nancy Elliott, formerly of the New Hampshire legislature. Euthanasia Prevention Coalition has further details.
