Today is the 46th anniversary of the Supreme Court Case Roe vs. Wade. The 1973 decision to legalize abortion has now lead to the death of over 60 million unborn children. I was scheduled to be counted in those monstrously high numbers, but thankfully my mother changed her mind and left the abortionist’s office in Hartford, CT. Today I stood in the city where I was once scheduled to die and listened to our elected officials celebrate violence towards unborn children.

Our Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Attorney General William Tong, along with State Senators and legislators shared how grateful they were for abortion and how Roe was a “landmark decision”. Along with celebrating abortion on demand, our leaders released information about upcoming bills. One bill is a near copy of HB. 5416 which died last year after getting a hearing before the Public Health Committee. The new bill accuses pro-life pregnancy resource centers of false advertising. According to NARAL Pro-Choice CT and those in support of this bill, even the words “Pregnant? Need Help” on the back of a bus can be considered false advertising. NARAL Pro-Choice CT submitted anonymous testimonies to the Public Health Committee last year from clients who had supposedly been hurt by centers. A staff member from a CT pregnancy center fact-checked a story by looking up the age of said client, date of incident and details that were given about the situation. This pregnancy center staff member quickly realized the story submitted to the Public Health Committee was completely made up.

Another bill was brought up today by former Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice CT, now Representative Jillian Gilchrest, that proposes co-pay-free abortions. She made a point to mention co-pay free late-term abortions as well. A bright light in this dark press conference was the proposal of a bill that will help women get care from doulas and one that will help women find breastfeeding support in their workplace. I support laws that aid women and families and I applaud our legislators who seek to do that. However, supporting abortion weakens their cause because abortion is harmful to the women they desire to protect.

Stay tuned for how you can help us defeat the anti-pregnancy center bill supported by pro-choice Republican Rep. Terrie Wood and others and stand against the no co-pay abortion bill Rep Gilchrest spoke highly of at today’s presser.
